Riyadh, January 24, 2025 — The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has announced the introduction of an accreditation certification process for artificial intelligence (AI) service providers within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of SDAIA's broader efforts to enhance the maturity and reliability of AI applications across various sectors, ensuring that AI products and services meet high standards of quality for citizens, residents, and visitors to the Kingdom. The move aligns with Saudi Arabia's commitment to positioning itself as a global leader in cutting-edge technologies, in line with the ambitious goals of Vision 2030.
The initiative is designed to elevate the development and use of AI by establishing a robust framework for assessing and accrediting service providers. Under this new program, entities offering AI products and services will undergo a thorough assessment process via the National Data Governance platform, which includes advanced tools for evaluating products and services at different levels of maturity. This platform helps identify entities that demonstrate a high level of dedication and responsibility in their AI practices, offering them incentive tags to reflect their level of maturity. These tags, which range from “conscious” to “pioneer,” will indicate the entity’s commitment to ethical AI development and its adherence to established best practices.
Entities that successfully meet the required criteria will be issued an official accreditation certificate, valid for one year. This certificate will not only reflect the entity's level of maturity in the responsible use of AI but will also encourage a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and ethical responsibility in AI deployment. The categories for the incentive tags—*conscious, adoptive, committed, reliable,* and pioneer—are designed to promote a progressive approach to AI development, with each level signifying the degree of risk and ethical commitment associated with the product or service. These tags will serve as a recognition of the entity’s commitment to maintaining high standards of reliability and ethical AI practices.
This accreditation process plays a crucial role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the responsible and sustainable use of AI technologies. As the Kingdom's national reference for data and AI, SDAIA is responsible for organizing, developing, and managing these sectors in accordance with the vision and strategic objectives set forth by the Kingdom’s leadership. Through its work, SDAIA is not only regulating data and AI but also establishing policies, standards, and controls that ensure the responsible and effective implementation of AI across industries in Saudi Arabia.
The initiative is a testament to the vision of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of SDAIA's Board of Directors, who has continually demonstrated strong support for the Kingdom’s ambitions to become a global hub for technological innovation. By providing the necessary infrastructure and oversight for the development of AI, Saudi Arabia is taking decisive steps to ensure the ethical, secure, and beneficial application of these technologies, contributing to the realization of Vision 2030.
Entities interested in obtaining the accreditation certificate and incentive tags can submit their applications via the National Data Governance Platform. This platform offers a seamless process for organizations to assess their AI products and services, helping them to align with the Kingdom's evolving standards in the AI and data sectors.
