Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister attends meeting on synthetic drug threats

New York, September 20, 2023, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, attended a high-level meeting of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats on Monday in New York City, in conjunction with the 78th United Nations General Assembly. In a speech, the Saudi foreign minister stated that the trafficking of synthetic drugs has a negative impact on security and development, leaving grave consequences for societies and difficult challenges for the international community that necessitate close cooperation between governments to combat the global drug epidemic. He also reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to the ministerial declaration issued by the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, which seeks to accelerate and bolster an effective global collective response.

The foreign minister stated that the United Kingdom continues to strengthen international cooperation and multilateral frameworks to combat the threats posed by the drug trade and its transnational distribution.

The Saudi minister stated that the Kingdom is making efforts to exchange information with more than 30 countries in order to combat the global drug scourge and curb its growing threat, noting that information exchange and continuous monitoring are adopted concurrently with the removal of obstacles that contribute to the global spread of illicit drug use.
