ABHA — The Saudi Arabian Olympic football squad won 3-1 over Mongolia to start their campaign in the qualifying rounds for the Asian U-23 Championship in Qatar in 2024. The Group 10 game was played in the Saudi Arabian city of Abha in the southwest.
The Saudi team overcame a deficit in the last seconds of play to secure a crucial victory. With an early penalty kick in the third minute, Mongolia initially seized the lead. Musab Al-Juwayr managed to tie the score for the Saudi squad in the 87th minute, and Abdullah Radif added the second goal in the ninth minute of extra time. Shortly after, Mohammed Maran scored a third goal to put an end to the game.
Along with Lebanon, Cambodia, and Mongolia, Group 10 includes the Saad Al-Shehri-coached Saudi Olympic team. The qualifiers will occur between September 6 and September 12, 2023. The Saudi team's quest to qualify for the prestigious Asian U-23 Championship gets off to a bright start with this victory.
