Doha, January 22, 2024, The Saudi national football team has advanced to the round of 16 in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 after defeating the Kyrgyz national team 2-0 at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Sunday. This victory took place during the second round of the sixth group competitions, which also witnessed a goalless draw between Thailand and Oman.
In the match, attended by 39,557 spectators, Mohammad Kannou scored in the 36th minute, and Faisal Al-Ghamdi added another goal in the 85th minute, securing a 2-0 win for the Saudi team, commonly known as "the Greens."
With this triumph, the Saudi team now has six points, leading the group with a two-point advantage over Thailand. Oman earned its first point, while Kyrgyzstan faced its second loss in the tournament.
The final round of the group stage will determine the group's leadership, where Saudi Arabia is set to face Thailand in their third group stage match. The Greens only need a draw to secure the top spot, while Thailand requires one point to secure the second position and advance to the round of 16 alongside the Saudi team.
