Kampala, September 06, 2023, A $30 million concessional development loan deal was signed today in Kampala by Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), and Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development of Uganda. The SFD is extending this agreement in order to support the construction and furnishing of the Kampala Heart Institute project. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Uganda's Minister of Health, and a number of other representatives were present at the signing event. The main goals of this agreement are to strengthen Uganda's healthcare system and aid in the implementation of its third national development plan. This strategy aims to increase population productivity and social wellbeing while also meeting the medical needs of those with cardiovascular disease. It also intends to lessen the need for medical care received outside of Uganda. It's significant because this project is in line with the third sustainable development goal, which focuses on wellbeing and good health. The construction of the main medical building, a research center, and a doctor housing complex are all included in the entire project. Additionally, it involves the purchase of state-of-the-art medical and technological tools to expand the facility's ability to provide patient care, resulting in 222 medical beds, including 20 intensive care units. Additionally, the program makes sure that the operating, emergency, and radiological rooms are properly furnished and that five complete clinical and research labs are available. It also includes educating medical personnel in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of heart conditions.
This project will have a positive effect on more than 62,400 people, and by creating both direct and indirect job possibilities in the healthcare industry, it will greatly boost the local economy.
