Riyadh, October 19, 2023, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, bestowed honors upon 21 recipients hailing from 18 different Islamic nations as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Award for Environmental Management in the Islamic World. This distinguished recognition unfolded during the ninth Conference of Environment Ministers in the Islamic World, graced by the presence of 52 environment ministers representing Islamic countries and delegates from 30 regional and international organizations dedicated to environmental affairs.
Dr. Osama bin Ibrahim Faqiha, the Undersecretary for the Environment, highlighted the award's significance as a testament to Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to fostering environmental initiatives across the Islamic world. The initiative aims to ignite interest in environmental efforts and promote research, innovation, and practices that align with Islamic principles of environmental protection and development.
The award received an impressive response, with nearly 500 participants, including researchers, innovators, environmental advocates, and public environmental institutions, expressing interest. Among these, 170 nominations from 30 Islamic countries met the application criteria, exemplifying the widespread enthusiasm for environmental advancement in the Islamic world.
