Riyadh, October 31, 2023, Majed Al-Hogail, the Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing, led the Saudi delegation to the 21st meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Committee for Housing Affairs. This gathering was a part of the 'Urban October – The First Gulf Housing Week' conference, taking place in Muscat, Oman, from October 29 to 31.
During the meeting, the ministers engaged in discussions related to a memorandum outlining the joint Gulf housing action plan. This plan included the approval of guidelines for housing sustainability in GCC countries, guidelines for modern construction methods, and the GCC housing action plan for 2024-2030. They also addressed matters concerning housing databases.
Furthermore, the meeting unveiled the winners of the 2023 GCC Award for Housing Work, now in its fifth edition. The first prize was awarded to the Sustainable City Yiti project by Oman's Omran Company, with a reward of SAR 50,000. The second place was claimed by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for their design of economic and sustainable housing units, earning them a prize of SAR 30,000. The third prize of SAR 20,000 was bestowed upon the Al Jaar housing project in Yanbu Industrial City, which is under the Royal Commission for Jubail.
The ministers emphasized the significance of continued participation in regional and international meetings related to housing to showcase the Gulf's achievements in this field. Moreover, they discussed a proposal from the General Secretariat concerning agreements with specialized organizations that serve the housing sector.
