Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, revealed that the Kingdom has invested over SAR150 billion in water projects over the past eight years, with more than SAR2 billion allocated to environmental developmental projects in the Northern Borders Region. These announcements were made during the Ministerial session at the 2023 Northern Borders Investment Forum, inaugurated by Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz in Arar.
Al-Fadhli underscored the completion of the legislative framework for the Kingdom’s environmental system, aimed at achieving a 95% waste recycling target by 2035, a significant shift from landfill waste—a testament to Saudi Arabia's dedication to sustainable development as outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. The minister also emphasized the presence of incentives and promising investment opportunities in the environmental sector, particularly within the Northern Borders Region.
Commending successful water resource management, Al-Fadhli highlighted a record agricultural production valued at SAR100 billion in 2022. Through the use of advanced technologies, the agricultural consumption rate has been reduced from 86% to 70%, showcasing the Kingdom's commitment to efficient resource utilization and sustainable practices.
