Saudi National Guard Minister Arrives in Korea for Official Visit

Official Visit and Reception: Prince Abdullah bin Bandar, Saudi Arabia's Minister of the National Guard, arrived in South Korea for an official visit at the invitation of Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-woo, where he was welcomed with a formal reception at the Ministry of National Defense.

Seoul, November 6, 2024 – In a significant move aimed at strengthening bilateral defense ties, Prince Abdullah bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, the Minister of the National Guard of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, arrived today in the Republic of Korea for an official visit. The visit comes at the invitation of South Korea's Minister of National Defense, Kim Yong-woo, and reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.


Upon arrival in Seoul, Prince Abdullah was welcomed with a formal reception ceremony at the Ministry of National Defense, where he was greeted by Minister Kim and other senior South Korean defense officials. The ceremony underscored the importance both countries place on deepening defense cooperation.


During their meeting, the two defense ministers held in-depth discussions on a wide range of issues aimed at bolstering the security collaboration between Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Topics of conversation included the possibility of joint military training, the exchange of defense expertise, and strengthening cooperation in the areas of armaments. They also explored opportunities for localization and joint development of advanced defense technologies, focusing on strategies to address both current and emerging security challenges in the region.


Prince Abdullah, who is accompanied by Major General Saleh bin Abdulrahman Al-Harbi and other senior officials from the Saudi Ministry of National Guard, emphasized the significance of enhanced defense cooperation in light of the evolving global security environment. The two ministers agreed on the need for closer coordination and collaboration in the face of shared security concerns, particularly in countering emerging threats such as cyber warfare, regional instability, and the rapid advancement of military technologies.


The visit is expected to lay the groundwork for deeper strategic and defense ties between Saudi Arabia and South Korea, fostering mutual benefits in the areas of military innovation, training, and defense industry collaboration. Both sides also expressed a commitment to building stronger, long-term partnerships that contribute to regional stability and peace.


The delegation’s schedule includes a series of high-level meetings with South Korean defense and security leaders, as well as visits to key military installations and defense technology centers, where Prince Abdullah and his team will gain firsthand insights into South Korea’s advanced military capabilities.


This visit marks another step in the growing relationship between the two countries, which have previously collaborated on a range of economic, technological, and diplomatic issues. By strengthening defense cooperation, Saudi Arabia and South Korea are not only enhancing their bilateral ties but also contributing to broader regional and global security frameworks.
