RIYADH March 30, 2025 — As Saudi observatories prepare to sight the Shawwal crescent moon, experts believe conditions may allow for visibility on Saturday evening, potentially marking the end of Ramadan.
Renowned moon-sighter Abdullah Al-Khudairi from the Sudair observatory noted that the moon’s position is more favorable than at the start of Ramadan.
“The crescent is expected to remain visible for around eight minutes after sunset,” he explained, emphasizing that lunar and solar eclipses do not impact moon visibility.
From the Tamir observatory, observer Mutib Al-Burghash said sighting the crescent is possible if the skies remain clear.
However, the National Center of Meteorology warned that cloud formations may affect visibility over Sudair and Tamir.
The Supreme Court has called on all Muslims in the Kingdom to attempt to sight the moon on Saturday evening, the 29th of Ramadan, corresponding to March 29.
