In a recent announcement, the Saudi Ports Authority, also known as Mawani, revealed that King Abdulaziz Port has been added to the RCL Gulf ASEAN (RGA) cargo service. This service is operated by Regional Container Lines, a shipping company based in Thailand. In a groundbreaking development, a new and improved service is set to launch on September 5, originating from the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh City. This upgraded service will establish a direct connection between the port in Dammam and key transportation hubs across Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East. Notably, this seamless connection will be facilitated by a single vessel, eliminating the need for multiple transfers. The ports of Cai Mep, Laem Chabang, Port Klang, Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, and Sohar will all be included in this extensive network, further enhancing connectivity in the region.
The Arabian Gulf port is poised to enhance its position as a prominent trade hub in the region. With the introduction of a new maritime link, the port is equipped with exceptional capabilities, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a remarkable level of productivity and efficiency. These noteworthy attributes have played a crucial role in the port's remarkable achievement of handling a record-breaking 211,202 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in the month of July.
The national maritime regulator's endeavors to entice international freightliners to Saudi Arabia have proven fruitful, resulting in an impressive score of 76.16 points and a commendable 16th-place ranking in the UNCTAD's Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI). This achievement marks a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia's ambitious pursuit to establish itself as a prominent global logistics hub, aligning with the objectives outlined in Vision 2030.
