JEDDAH — The Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Saudi Pro League have jointly announced an increase in the number of foreign players allowed in the Saudi League, effective from the 2024-2025 season.
As outlined in the released statement on Friday, modifications have been made to the roster rules, reducing the number of players registered in the first teams of Saudi Professional League clubs from 30 to 25. Notably, each club will now have the flexibility to register up to 10 non-Saudi players.
This new ruling permits the registration of eight foreign players without specifying a minimum age requirement. In an effort to boost investment in talent development, two non-Saudi players born in 2003 or later can also be registered by each club.
It's worth noting that each club retains the right to register one professional player born in Saudi Arabia, with a birth year of 1998 or later. During matchdays, teams can include up to 8 foreign players in the squad, in addition to the Saudi-born professional. It's important to highlight that this rule doesn't apply to the King's Cup and the Saudi Super Cup competitions, where all registered foreign players are eligible to participate.
These adjustments in the player registration rules aim to enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Saudi Professional League while fostering the development of both local and international talent within the league.
