Promoting Rural Tourism and Heritage: Saudi Reef’s new initiative in Taif, launching on January 24, 2025, aims to boost rural tourism and preserve the region's agricultural and cultural heritage through sustainable activities.

Taif, January 21, 2025 – In a move to enhance rural tourism and preserve the rich agricultural and cultural heritage of Taif, the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Saudi Reef) is set to launch a significant initiative on Wednesday. This new initiative aims to showcase the beauty of the region, empower local communities, and stimulate the rural economy through sustainable agricultural and tourism activities.

According to Majed Al-Buraikan, Assistant Secretary-General for Media and Communication at Saudi Reef, the initiative is part of the program’s broader commitment to supporting rural and agricultural communities in Saudi Arabia. By promoting local heritage and sustainable practices, the program seeks to foster long-term economic development in villages and surrounding areas. The project focuses on utilizing the region's natural resources and rich cultural history to create new economic opportunities while ensuring the preservation of local traditions.

The upcoming event in Taif will feature a range of interactive activities designed to engage the public and highlight the significance of traditional agriculture and harvesting methods. These hands-on sessions will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about time-honored farming techniques that have shaped the region’s agricultural practices for generations. Additionally, 22 booths will be set up to showcase the diverse sectors for which Taif is renowned, such as the cultivation of roses, aromatic plants, handicrafts, and local agricultural projects. These exhibits will offer visitors a chance to explore Taif’s unique produce and products, many of which have become synonymous with the region’s identity.

Al-Buraikan emphasized that the initiative’s primary goal is to position Taif as a leading tourist and heritage destination, drawing visitors from both within the Kingdom and internationally. By highlighting the area’s agricultural richness and cultural significance, Saudi Reef seeks to attract tourism that contributes to the region’s economic revitalization. This focus on sustainable rural tourism will not only promote Taif’s natural beauty but also provide a platform to support and empower local families, particularly those involved in cottage industries, agriculture, and handicrafts.

Additionally, the initiative aims to provide direct support to farmers in the region, helping them to market their products more effectively and tap into broader markets. By fostering entrepreneurship and promoting local goods, the program hopes to boost the incomes of rural families and further strengthen the rural economy.

This effort comes as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader goals to diversify its economy and create new opportunities for local communities through sustainable development. As part of Vision 2030, the Kingdom is investing in rural tourism and agriculture as key drivers of economic growth, recognizing the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of its regions while enabling sustainable development.

The initiative in Taif is expected to bring a renewed focus on the area’s agricultural and cultural assets, offering a platform for growth, collaboration, and community empowerment. With its blend of tradition and innovation, Saudi Reef’s initiative promises to be a significant step toward shaping Taif’s future as a vibrant tourist and heritage destination.
