Saudi regrets UN veto on Gaza ceasefire resolution

Riyadh, Feb 21, 2024, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conveyed its disappointment regarding the veto of the draft resolution, which sought an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and its neighboring areas. This resolution had been presented by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on behalf of Arab nations to the Security Council.

In its statement, the ministry underscored the urgent necessity for reform within the Security Council, emphasizing the imperative for it to fulfill its mandate of preserving international peace and security with credibility and impartiality, devoid of any double standards.

Moreover, the Kingdom issued a warning concerning the worsening humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip and its environs, coupled with the escalation of military activities posing a threat to global peace and stability. These developments were deemed detrimental to efforts aimed at fostering dialogue and achieving a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian predicament in alignment with pertinent international resolutions.
