Saudi runner Issa Ghazwani, 20, clinches gold in men's 800 meters at Asian Games in Hangzhou, China

Hangzhou, October 04, 2023, Issa Ghazwani, a 20-year-old Saudi runner, won the gold medal in the men's 800-meter race at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. First-place finisher Ghazwani finished in 1:48.05, followed by Indian Afzal Mohammad in second place (1:48.43), and Oman's Hussein Al-Farsi in third place (1:48.43). Despite not being regarded as one of the 800m race's top runners, Ghazwani surprised everyone by winning in a record time.

The Kingdom has so far brought home five medals at the 19th Asian Games—two gold, two silver, and one bronze—with the addition of Ghazwani's gold.
