Riyadh, February 08, 2024, The Saudi Space Agency is set to host its inaugural conference titled "Space Debris: Safeguarding the Future of the Global Space Economy" from February 11th to 12th, 2024. Collaborating with the Communications and Space Technology Commission (CST) and partnering with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) as a content provider, the conference aims to serve as a platform for exploring innovative strategies to tackle the pressing issue of space debris. The active involvement of industry leaders is pivotal in shaping the long-term sustainability of space activities.
This groundbreaking event will convene over 200 international experts and feature insights from 60 speakers representing more than 50 countries. It will shed light on the challenges posed by space debris and deepen understanding of the associated risks. Over the course of two days, the conference will raise awareness about the magnitude of the space debris problem, deliberate on legislative and policy measures to mitigate its impact, and foster research and innovation to develop effective solutions.
Distinguished speakers include senior officials and thought leaders from the space sector, such as Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Aarti Holla-Maini, the Director of UNOOSA.
