Saudi Transport Minister Highlights Aviation's Role in Economic Development at ICAN 2023

Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), participated in the ministerial session on "Impact of air transport on economic development" at the 15th International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation event, ICAN 2023, hosted by GACA in Riyadh.


The event, attended by aviation industry leaders from over 100 countries, welcomed ministers and heads of civil aviation agencies. Minister Al-Jasser emphasized the pivotal role of the Saudi aviation strategy in achieving economic development, contributing to the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030. He acknowledged the unwavering support from the wise leadership, particularly the continuous guidance from His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.


Al-Jasser highlighted that the achievements of the Saudi aviation strategy have brought the Kingdom closer to the world. The strategy, encompassing various plans and programs, aims to rapidly develop the air transport sector by expanding the connectivity of Saudi airports. These efforts, according to Al-Jasser, significantly contribute to supporting the Saudi economy.


The minister expressed the ministry's goal of increasing the transport and logistics sector's contribution to GDP to 10%, identifying the civil aviation sector as a key means to achieve this ambitious target. The ministerial session also featured insights from counterparts in Indonesia, Saint Lucia, and the Seychelles, who shared experiences about the aviation sector's role in economic development, prosperity, and increased connectivity in their respective countries.
