Riyadh, January 27, 2024, The Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, recently attended the signing ceremony of an agreement between SAR and the Italian Arsenale Group. The agreement marks the launch of the "Dream of the Desert" train, which will provide luxurious train trips in the Kingdom.
The signing ceremony was conducted by SAR CEO Dr. Bashar Al-Malik and Chairman of the Arsenale Group Paolo Barletta. The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two parties on March 15, 2023.
Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser highlighted the significance of introducing luxury train services in the Middle East and North Africa region. The launch of the "Dream of the Desert" train is expected to enhance the quality of transportation services in the Kingdom, aligning with the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life and support key national strategies.
Al-Jasser acknowledged the substantial support from the wise leadership for the transport and logistics sector, enabling it to execute projects, provide services, and implement development initiatives. He also praised the collaborative efforts between the transport sector and various stakeholders, contributing to the sector's development and enhancing the experience of beneficiaries.
Dr. Bashar Al-Malik reiterated SAR's commitment to implementing quality initiatives aligned with the company's strategy and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. The "Dream of the Desert" train is anticipated to be a significant addition to SAR's services, offering an essential tourist and entertainment option to customers. The train will allow visitors and residents to explore different areas of the Kingdom while enjoying luxurious transportation services.
Paolo Barletta provided insight into the production progress of the "Dream of the Desert" train, indicating that initial production stages have commenced in Italy. Bookings for the 40 luxury-cabin train are expected to open at the end of the current year, with actual operation set to begin in the fourth quarter of the following year. The inaugural trips will start from the North Train Station in Riyadh, passing through Hail and concluding at Al-Qurayyat train station.
