Saudi U-23 team reaches Asian Games Round of 16, defeating Vietnam 3-1

HANGZHOU — The Saudi U-23 national football squad has advanced to the Round of 16 at the Asian Games, following a triumphant 3-1 victory over Vietnam during the third-round Group B match.


The game unfolded at the Linping Sports Center in Hangzhou, China, this past Sunday. Mohammed Al-Yami set the pace by netting the opening goal for the Green Falcons in the 43rd minute of the first half.


Shortly before the match concluded, Mohammed Maran added the second goal through a well-executed penalty kick in the 86th minute, while Zakaria Hawsawi secured the victory with the third goal in the 90th minute. Vietnam managed to score a consolation goal during injury time at 90+3.


With this win, the Green Falcons clinched the second position in the group with a total of 7 points, narrowly trailing behind the Iranian national team based on goal difference.


Prior to this victory over Vietnam, the Saudi Olympic team had previously played a goalless draw against Iran and secured a 3-0 win against Mongolia.


In the Round of 16, the Green Falcons are slated to face the Indian national team.
