Saudi welcomes ICJ decision against genocide, rejects Gaza lawsuit rejection

Riyadh, January 26, 2024, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conveyed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's appreciation for the initial ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The decision is geared towards putting an end to any actions and declarations that may lead to genocide against the Palestinian population in the besieged Gaza Strip. The Kingdom also affirms its rejection of dismissing the legal complaint filed by South Africa.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry affirmed the Kingdom's endorsement of the ICJ's judgment and its firm disapproval of the Israeli occupation's actions, which are deemed as violations of the United Nations Convention on Genocide. Additionally, the ministry commended South Africa's initiative in bringing forward the lawsuit to address the ongoing transgressions during the Israeli occupation in Gaza.

Highlighting the significance of international intervention, the ministry lauded efforts aimed at curbing the violence in the Gaza Strip. It stressed the need for the global community to take decisive measures to halt the hostilities, ensure the protection of the Palestinian populace, and hold the Israeli occupation forces accountable for their systematic breaches of international law and humanitarian principles.
