Tabuk, September 12, 2023, By being the first airline to run flights to the Red Sea International Airport, Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) has accomplished a significant milestone. Red Sea International (RSI), SAUDIA, and Daa International, who operate Red Sea International Airport, inked a memorandum of understanding that allowed for this accomplishment. The construction of the Red Sea International Airport is progressing steadily, according to John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, and it is anticipated that it will open this year with three resorts. The airport will initially serve domestic flights to and from Riyadh before expanding to accommodate flights from Jeddah. The airport hopes to accommodate international flights by 2024. Pagano continued by saying that the agreement of understanding will be the basis for SAUDIA, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, to start conducting regular operations from and to Red Sea International Airport. The agreement also establishes the framework for joint research on the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and low-carbon aviation fuel (LCAF) at the airport. This shows a shared dedication to lowering carbon emissions in the aviation sector.
The memorandum also covers the assessment of the use of electric vertical take-off and landing jets (eVTOL) as a way to lessen air travel's emissions in the Red Sea region.
Overall, this historic pact between SAUDIA, Red Sea International, and Daa International opens the road for sustainable aviation practices and demonstrates the forward-thinking attitude all parties have toward environmental preservation in the aviation industry.
