Riyadh, January 31, 2024, The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) recently conducted two significant workshops in collaboration with the Arab League (AL), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE). The primary objective of these workshops was to enhance the role of ethical practices in artificial intelligence (AI) and its tools, contributing to the regulation of technology and the achievement of sustainable development in the region.
The first workshop, titled 'Artificial Intelligence for Sustainability,' was hosted at SDAIA's National Artificial Intelligence Center. It underscored the critical importance of ethical considerations in regulating technology and advancing sustainable development in Arab countries. The event focused on ethical aspects of AI applications, fostering collaboration among Arab nations to disseminate values and ethical tools related to artificial intelligence. The workshop saw active participation from 73 experts and 50 Arab organizations spanning 18 countries.
The second workshop, 'Ethical Tools for Artificial Intelligence,' took place at the GCC General Secretariat General. It involved GCC countries sharing their experiences with artificial intelligence and delving into the role of AI ethics. UNESCO contributed by presenting an ethical AI tool developed by the organization, expressing a readiness to support interested countries in its implementation. This workshop brought together 31 experts and 12 entities from the GCC countries.
These workshops, organized by SDAIA, align with its mandate to regulate artificial intelligence technologies, foster the development of data and AI, and raise awareness in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As the national authority for data and artificial intelligence, SDAIA plays a crucial role in overseeing their regulation, development, and progress.
