Miami, November 17, 2024 – The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) proudly represented Saudi Arabia on the global stage by presenting two groundbreaking scientific papers at the 29th Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP), which concluded on November 15. This premier conference gathered a distinguished assembly of 3,500 AI researchers and scientists from across the globe, showcasing over 2,300 cutting-edge scientific contributions.
Dr. Yaser Al-Onaizan, the CEO of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) under SDAIA and co-chair of the EMNLP scientific committee, emphasized the importance of this milestone for the Kingdom’s growing presence in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science. He underscored SDAIA’s commitment to advancing the global dialogue in AI research through its participation in such prominent forums.
SDAIA’s contributions to the conference included two meticulously researched papers. The first, titled “A Systematic Survey and Critical Review of the Evaluation of Large Language Models: Challenges, Limitations, and Recommendations,” provided a comprehensive overview of the methodologies used to assess large language models (LLMs). It delved into the inherent challenges and limitations of current evaluation techniques, offering actionable recommendations to refine these processes and ensure more robust and equitable AI systems.
The second paper, “Exploring Compatibility in Multilingual Shared Spaces,” explored innovative approaches to bridging linguistic barriers in multilingual AI systems. This research highlighted the potential for creating shared linguistic spaces that enhance AI’s ability to operate seamlessly across diverse languages and cultures, aligning with the global drive towards inclusive and accessible AI.
Speaking on SDAIA’s role in advancing AI research, Dr. Al-Onaizan noted, “SDAIA is deeply committed to fostering a thriving ecosystem of innovation and scientific research in data and AI. By participating in events like EMNLP, we aim to empower researchers, promote cross-border collaborations, and solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading economy built on data and AI-driven solutions.”
This participation not only underscores Saudi Arabia's strides in embracing cutting-edge technologies but also reflects its broader Vision 2030 aspirations of positioning the Kingdom as a hub for technological innovation and research. Through its efforts, SDAIA continues to inspire a new wave of advancements, opening avenues for global partnerships and establishing Saudi Arabia as a vital contributor to the AI and data science community.
The conference's successful conclusion marked another chapter in the Kingdom’s journey toward global AI leadership, reaffirming its dedication to shaping a sustainable and technologically empowered future.
