SDAIA President meets UNESCO Assistant Director-General for collaboration discussions

Kranj, February 7, 2024, Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, the President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), convened a meeting with Gabriela Ramos, the Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This gathering took place alongside the Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI), an event jointly organized by UNESCO and Slovenia’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, themed "Changing the Landscape of AI Governance."

Amidst discussions, both parties delved into a thorough examination of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering support for UNESCO and its multifaceted objectives, particularly in the realm of AI. The conversation also centered on endeavors aimed at fortifying the role of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), a UNESCO-affiliated institution. SDAIA's contributions to this endeavor were underscored, notably through collaborative initiatives such as workshops on AI ethics conducted in partnership with esteemed entities like the Arab League, the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and ICAIRE.

Furthermore, the meeting served as a platform to discuss SDAIA's broader efforts in the domain of data and artificial intelligence, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to fostering innovation and advancing ethical AI practices on the global stage.
