Riyadh, September 11, 2024 – In a bid to advance and elevate the Arabic language, the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NAVER LABS and NAVER CLOUD. This collaboration aims to develop a sophisticated Arabic language model and explore its applications.
The MoU was signed during the third Global AI Summit (GAIN) in Riyadh. SDAIA was represented by Dr. Esam Alwagait, Director of the National Information Center, while NAVER CLOUD was represented by Dr. Sangok Seok and Dr. Yoon Kim, and NAVER Corporation was represented by Dr. Choi Soo-Yeon. The signing ceremony was hosted by SDAIA President Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi and the Republic of Korea's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Choi Byung-Huyk.
The partnership is set to leverage cutting-edge technologies to develop an Arabic language model, offering solutions in data centers and contributing to cloud-based digital transformation services. SDAIA's focus is on enhancing the Arabic language's presence in AI through various applications using advanced algorithms.
Recently, SDAIA, in collaboration with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, compiled a comprehensive dictionary of data and AI terms, providing simplified definitions in both Arabic and English. Additionally, SDAIA introduced the "Your Voice" application, which converts speech into text in classical Arabic and various local dialects. This tool is designed for recording meeting minutes and creating interactive audio systems.
Previously, at the second Global AI Summit in 2022, SDAIA launched the "ALLaM" application to support the Arabic language. This application aims to enhance language models by developing systems for understanding and generating Arabic poetry, parsing Arabic sentences accurately, and creating engaging ways for children to learn Arabic.
