Dubai, December 06, 2023, The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), recognized as the largest producer, transmitter, and distributor of electrical energy in the Middle East and North Africa, has declared its commitment to attaining net-zero emissions by the year 2050. This initiative aligns with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, employing the circular carbon economy approach.
Acknowledging its pivotal role in addressing climate change, SEC has unveiled a comprehensive sustainable environment strategy designed to contribute to the broader national target of carbon neutrality. The announcement took place during a special event organized by SEC on the sidelines of the United Nations COP28 climate-change summit in Dubai.
During the event, SEC underscored its dedication to reducing emissions through a series of projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency. The company is actively engaged in developing the electricity transmission network into a smart network, incorporating clean energy sources and renewable energy stations. Additionally, SEC is advancing the implementation of the smart meter project to further bolster environmental sustainability.
To bolster its commitment to carbon neutrality, SEC has forged strategic partnerships, signing seven agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent local and international companies. These partners include LUCI, Al-Fanar, Sal Italy, CHINT Saudi Arabia, Siemens, Schneider Electric Global, Huawei, IBM, and JAC.
SEC's initiatives and collaborations underscore a proactive approach to address environmental challenges, emphasizing the integration of clean and renewable energy sources into its operations. By laying the foundation for sustainable practices, the company is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the Kingdom's broader vision for a carbon-neutral future.
