Seismic event of magnitude 7.4 hits north-central Japan, as reported by NHK

Tokyo, January 1, 2024, A seismic event with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 struck north-central Japan on Monday, as reported by Reuters citing the public broadcaster NHK. In response to the earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for coastal regions in Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama prefectures.

Following the seismic activity, Hokuriku Electric Power initiated checks for any irregularities at its nuclear power plants, according to NHK. The situation is actively monitored as authorities respond to the potential impacts of the earthquake and the associated tsunami warning.
