SFA wraps up third Riyadh Marathon with 20,000+ global participants

Riyadh, February 11, 2024, The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) brought the curtain down on the third edition of the Riyadh Marathon yesterday, concluding two days of exhilarating competition at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Over 20,000 athletes from various corners of the globe took to the starting line, marking a significant international presence.

As contestants triumphantly crossed the finish line, they were met with resounding applause from their fellow competitors and enthusiastic spectators. The champions were rewarded handsomely, with prizes exceeding SAR 700,000, alongside medals commemorating their remarkable achievements in the marathon.

In the fiercely contested men's professional category covering a distance of 242 kilometers, Kenyan athlete Kegen Kirwa claimed the coveted first place, followed closely by Ethiopian runner Telehun Gashaho in second, with Moroccan competitor Algoz Anwar securing third.

This edition witnessed an impressive turnout of sports enthusiasts, with representation from over 20,000 male and female participants hailing from 125 countries worldwide. Among the entrants, males comprised 64% of the total, while females accounted for 36%. The event featured 600 individuals competing in the full marathon, 3,000 participants in the half marathon, nearly 8,000 contenders in the 10 km race, and 8,400 participants in the 4 km race. Notably, the marathon experienced a notable increase in participation, surging by more than 33% compared to the previous year.
