Riyadh, November 22, 2023, The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) participated in a panel session during the Fifth Arab Water Conference in Riyadh, focusing on innovative and sustainable methods to enhance water security globally. The SFD's involvement underscores its commitment to advancing water resources through the funding of development projects and programs in developing nations.
The session, titled "Modern Financing Methods for Water Projects," featured Abdullah bin Khaled Albazai, Director of the Development Affairs Directorate at SFD. Albazai provided insights into the significant contributions of the fund in strengthening water sectors in Arab countries since 1975. These contributions have encompassed projects related to clean water, sewage, irrigation, and rural development.
Albazai highlighted that the SFD has financed 54 development projects with a total value exceeding $1.8 billion. Additionally, he noted the SFD's participation in the Saudi Program for Well Drilling and Rural Development in Africa, which has facilitated the implementation of 10,000 water facilities, benefiting over 5 million people, with a cumulative value of $330 million.
