Gambia, March 03, 2024, The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Deputy CEO, Eng. Faisal Al-Qahtani, participated in the inauguration of the University of The Gambia (UTG) Faraba Banta Campus. SFD had previously provided a $10 million soft development loan in support of the university's expansion, highlighting the enduring partnership between SFD and the Republic of The Gambia, which spans over five decades.
The loan has played a pivotal role in fostering the growth of the university and advancing higher education in The Gambia. Specifically, the funds were utilized for the construction of a permanent university complex covering 34,000 square meters. This expansive complex accommodates various faculties, including engineering, technical, administrative, and economics colleges, serving approximately 4,500 students. The project also included the preparation of the library building and the provision of student housing.
SFD's financial support enables The Gambia to cultivate specialized competencies among its citizens, creating an environment conducive to higher education and scientific research for both students and faculty members.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Gambian President Adama Barrow and several other officials, marking a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and opportunities in The Gambia.
