From September 10 to 12, 2024, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) will host a pivotal training program for the Codex Coordinating Committee for the Near East (CCNE) at its headquarters in Riyadh. This important event will see participation from key representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The primary objective of the training program is to enhance the engagement of CCNE member states in Codex activities and operations concerning food standards. These standards are developed through rigorous scientific methodologies and risk assessments to ensure the highest levels of food safety and quality. The program will include a series of workshops and interactive panel discussions that will delve into various aspects of food standards and safety, providing valuable insights and practical knowledge to the participants.

Saudi Arabia, through the SFDA, has been an active member of the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius (Codex) and has chaired the CCNE since 2020. The Kingdom's involvement underscores its commitment to advancing international food safety standards and fostering global collaboration in this crucial area. Codex, established in 1963, operates as a joint FAO-WHO organization comprising 189 member countries. It includes various committees and technical working groups dedicated to the development and maintenance of global food standards.

This training program reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing dedication to strengthening international partnerships and enhancing its role in global food safety governance. By hosting this event, the SFDA aims to support the effective implementation of Codex standards and to promote best practices among member states, contributing to the overall goal of safeguarding public health and ensuring food safety worldwide.
