Riyadh, October 11, 2023, The Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, has unveiled a strategic collaboration with Edama Organic Solutions, a pioneering sustainable management solutions provider for organic waste. The goal of this partnership is to establish a joint venture aimed at revolutionizing the recycling of organic waste within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as per a statement from SIRC.
This cooperative endeavor seeks to address the challenges of sustainable waste management and contribute to the establishment of a circular economy in line with SIRC's commitment to fulfilling the objectives outlined in Vision 2030.
Eng. Ziyad Al-Shiha, the CEO of the SIRC Group, highlighted the significance of organic waste recycling initiatives in reducing harmful emissions. He emphasized SIRC's commitment to driving the circular economy through partnerships and investments, both on a local and global scale, while promoting best practices in agricultural waste recycling.
Edama CEO Dr. Sabrina Vettori emphasized the project's mission to find sustainable solutions to pressing environmental issues. By leveraging science and technology, the project aspires to create a greener future for Saudi Arabia. Vettori underscored the long-term impact of investing in research and innovation, emphasizing the potential for pioneering agricultural products to enhance local agricultural productivity, support green initiatives, and conserve vital water resources.
This collaborative project benefits from the support of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). It focuses on harnessing scientific expertise in plant sciences and desert agriculture to develop products that enhance plant cultivation in arid environments, bolster agricultural productivity, reduce water usage in irrigation, facilitate land reclamation, and promote tree planting.
Dr. Ian Campbell, Acting Vice President for Innovation at KAUST, noted the transformative potential of managing organic waste through soil amendments and specialized organic waste products, countering the harmful effects of improper waste management on the environment and public health. This project is positioned to aid the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) in its mission to cultivate 10 billion trees and restore over 40 million hectares of degraded land by introducing locally produced soil amendments and innovative composting solutions that reduce water irrigation requirements.
The collaboration between Edama and SIRC represents a significant step toward realizing the objectives of Vision 2030, with a focus on building a sustainable future for society.
