Riyadh, January 21, 2024, The Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC), Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, recently bestowed honors upon the boxing champions in the 60 kg adult category at the Kingdom Open Championship 2023. This prestigious championship, which concluded at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City in Riyadh, brought together more than 375 male and female boxers competing across 181 weight and age categories.
In recognition of their outstanding achievements, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed gave awards to the champions. Additionally, Prince Fahd bin Mansour bin Saad, President of the Saudi Thai Boxing Federation and Vice President of the International Federation, presented awards to the youth category winners in the 71 kg weight class and the 10 to 11-year-old winners in the 'Women' category with a weight of 34 kg.
The Saudi Thai Boxing Federation, which played a pivotal role in organizing the Kingdom Open Championship, has multifaceted objectives for these events. Apart from providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and compete at a high level, the federation also conducts developmental courses for referees and coaches. This strategic initiative aims to empower and refine the skills of referees and coaches involved in the sport. Over 40 coaches and 50 referees actively participated in these courses, contributing to the continuous improvement of the sport's officiating and coaching standards.
The success of the Saudi Thai Boxing Federation has been evident since its establishment in 2019, with a notable increase in the number of practitioners in the sport over the past two years. The Kingdom Open Championship serves as a testament to the federation's commitment to promoting and developing Thai boxing in Saudi Arabia, nurturing talent, and enhancing the overall quality of the sport at both the grassroots and competitive levels.
