Riyadh, October 24, 2023, During the visit of Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the First Lady of South Korea, Kim Keon-hee, participated in a tree-planting ceremony to commemorate the 61st anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. The event was organized by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) and took place in Riyadh's Scientific Park. Kim Keon-hee was welcomed by Riyadh's Mayor, Prince Faisal bin Ayyaf, and the Executive Director of Green Riyadh at RCRC, Abdulaziz Al-Muqbel.
During her visit, Kim Keon-hee was briefed on the Green Riyadh Project and its positive impact on enhancing the city's quality of life, as well as the significant growth and various megaprojects currently underway in Riyadh. The Green Riyadh Project, initiated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, aims to plant 7.5 million trees in the capital city, increase the per capita green space from 1.7 square meters to 28 square meters, and enhance Riyadh's urban landscape. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030, which includes the ambitious goal of planting 10 billion trees across Saudi Arabia in the coming decades.
