SPPC announces qualified bidders for fifth NREP renewable energy projects

Riyadh, February 8, 2024, The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has announced the list of qualified bidders for the fifth round of renewable energy projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy.

Issued on November 12, 2023, the Request for Qualification (RFQ) of NREP’s Round 5 garnered Statements of Qualification (SOQ) from 31 applicants by December 5, 2023. Among these, a total of 23 companies have been deemed qualified for lead roles in the upcoming projects.

The cumulative capacity of Round 5 amounts to 3700 MW and comprises the following initiatives:

1. Al Sadawi Solar PV IPP: 2000 MWac, to be situated in the Eastern province, KSA.

2. Al Masa’a Solar PV IPP: 1000 MWac, slated for the Hail province, KSA.

3. Al Henakiyah 2 Solar PV IPP: 400 MWac, designated for the Madinah province, KSA.

4. Rabigh 2 Solar PV IPP: 300 MWac, planned for the Makkah Province, KSA.

Under the stewardship of the Ministry of Energy, NREP endeavors to optimize the renewable energy sector's contribution to the Kingdom's energy matrix, with a target of achieving 50% renewable energy in electricity production by 2030.

The qualified bidders for Round 5 projects encompass a diverse array of companies, including notable entities such as Masdar, Al Jomaih Energy & Water Co., Ltd., Marubeni Corporation, and Samsung C&T Corporation, among others.

SPPC, tasked with predevelopment, tendering, and procurement of energy from the projects, has already allocated over 12.6 GW of renewable energy capacity under NREP.
