SRCA Holds Workshop on Safeguarding Humanitarian Aid During Armed Conflicts

On September 10, 2024, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) held a workshop in Jeddah titled “Preventive Measures to Safeguard Humanitarian Aid and Health Services During Armed Conflicts.” The event was organized in partnership with the Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Mission for GCC countries. It brought together representatives from various national Red Crescent and Red Cross organizations across the Arab world.

Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Abdulrahman, Director of the SRCA's International Cooperation Department, highlighted the authority’s dedication, alongside the ICRC, to upholding international humanitarian law. He underscored the importance of protecting aid workers and healthcare professionals in conflict zones.

The workshop covered crucial topics such as the rights and responsibilities of humanitarian and medical personnel in war zones, rules of engagement, and safety measures to protect humanitarian operations in military settings. Participants also examined international best practices in delivering aid during conflicts, protecting the symbols of humanitarian organizations, and holding accountable those who commit violations against health, media, and aid workers.
