SRCA saves Umrah performer's life with prompt ambulance response

Ahmed Saleh

Makkah, March 16, 2024, The rapid response of the ambulance teams from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) proved pivotal in saving the life of a Bangladeshi pilgrim who encountered a medical emergency while performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

According to Dr. Mustafa bin Jamil Baljoun, the Director General of SRCA's Makkah branch, ambulance personnel conducting routine patrols in the outer courtyards of the mosque discovered an unconscious Umrah performer, a man in his fifties. Upon assessing the situation, the emergency team identified the pilgrim as experiencing fainting and respiratory distress. Without hesitation, they promptly initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using a defibrillator (AED). Fortunately, their swift and effective actions resulted in the pilgrim's pulse returning.

Following the successful resuscitation, the SRCA team swiftly transported the pilgrim to Al-Haram Emergency Center 3 for further medical attention and treatment.
