Stuart Payne's keynote on space situational awareness at conference

Riyadh, February 12, 2024, During the second day of the conference titled 'Space Debris: Towards Securing the Future of the Global Space Economy,' Stuart Payne, the CEO of North Star, delivered a keynote address titled 'Space Situational Awareness.' Payne underscored the ongoing imperative of achieving space sustainability and urged for continual vigilance regarding space conditions. He emphasized the necessity of implementing measures to safeguard the safety and longevity of space activities.

In his address, Payne commended the Kingdom's Vision 2030, characterizing it as both fruitful and ambitious, asserting that the world is currently reaping its rewards amidst the challenges of space exploration.

Using visual aids, Payne elaborated on the significance of employing advanced techniques for satellite tracking and collision avoidance. He highlighted the advancements in technology that enable the monitoring of over 20,000 artificial space objects and advocated for the establishment of an international system akin to the International Air Navigation System for managing space navigation. Payne stressed the importance of global collaboration and the establishment of shared standards and protocols to ensure space safety and sustainability.

During the panel discussion titled 'Navigating the New Frontier: Advances in Space Traffic Management,' participants delved into topics pertaining to investment in the space sector and associated technologies. They emphasized the importance of modern space programs in analyzing costs and effectively managing the proliferation of space debris. Additionally, speakers addressed the growing awareness surrounding rockets and space tourism flights, advocating for the integration of public and private data into navigation tools to enhance the safety of future rocket launches.

Conclusively, the speakers unanimously advocated for deepening ties and fostering cooperation among the 102 countries engaged in space exploration. They underscored the significance of investing in robust space infrastructure to ensure the safety of space operations and effectively tackle challenges such as space debris management and collision avoidance.
