Study recommends EMDR for successful PTSD treatment

Jeddah, September 03, 2023, After reviewing the findings of earlier studies, Dr. Areej Al-Mihdhar, an associate professor of clinical psychology at Jeddah University, published a study that recommends Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a successful treatment for PTSD cases. Al-Mihdhar noted that the study is the first systematic scientific review in Arabic on the use of EMDR for the treatment of trauma that is available in the Saudi Digital Library. The study examines EMDR as a type of treatment that aids in reducing the symptoms of many other accompanying psychological disorders, according to Al-Mihdhar. According to Al-Mihdhar, the study "highlights the most recent research findings on the effectiveness of EMDR treatment in reducing symptoms of PTSD, which occur after exposure to an extraordinarily unpleasant experience and render the patient's mind incapable of integrating emotional responses with the experience.

The study found that EMDR therapy can help PTSD patients feel less pain and anxiety while also elevating their mood and improving their sleep.
