JEDDAH, March 29, 2025: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Sudan’s transitional council chair on Friday, following the Sudanese Armed Forces' announcement that they had fully reclaimed Khartoum.
Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who also leads the SAF, held discussions with the crown prince at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah. According to the Saudi Press Agency, they reviewed the latest developments in Sudan and explored efforts to enhance security and stability. They also discussed bilateral cooperation and agreed to establish a coordination council to strengthen ties.
Al-Burhan visited the reclaimed presidential palace in Khartoum on Wednesday after his forces recaptured it from the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. He declared the capital free of RSF fighters, and the army confirmed on Thursday that it had cleared the last remaining RSF strongholds.
Sudan plunged into civil war in April 2023, with the RSF initially seizing control of Khartoum and other areas. However, the SAF later regrouped and launched an offensive to reclaim the capital.
Saudi Arabia has previously mediated multiple rounds of peace talks in an effort to end the conflict, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced over 12 million people.
