Riyadh, September 4, 2023, The Saudi Irrigation Organization's Suwaidra farm in Al-Ahsa has received official certification as an aquaponics farm and a certificate of organic production (HY30006/SA) for leaf crops, both of which attest to the farm's commitment to using organic farming to grow safe, high-quality crops. According to the organization, aquaponics farms use fish farming water to irrigate crops in order to increase crop quality, fish and plant production rates, preserve natural resources (including 90% more water for irrigation than traditional farming), and forgo the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. According to the organization, the adoption of the aquaponics system is a sustainable practice that aims to enhance the agricultural process, preserve natural resources, effectively utilize farming resources, and set an example for other farmers in order to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.
