Taif farms prepare for dormancy phase, tending to almond, apricot, pomegranate, grapes, and roses

Taif, January 15, 2024, Various farms in Taif are gearing up for the upcoming dormancy phase of trees, including almonds, apricots, pomegranates, grapes, and Taif roses. This period, lasting around three months is crucial for essential care operations such as trimming, pruning, soil improvement, weed removal, fertilization, and pest control. These measures contribute to the plants' adaptation to the environment and promote their growth and development during dormancy.

Agriculture experts emphasize that winter dormancy provides a period of rest for trees, allowing buds to grow and leaves to turn green when spring arrives. Fruit trees in southern Taif undergo dormancy during the cold months to recover strength and vitality, leading to increased production when warmth and sunlight return.

Taif, particularly in Maysan Governorate, is well-known for its diverse crops, including grapes, pomegranates, berries, peaches, almonds, hazelnuts, and plums. Farmers engage in a series of tasks over 40 days, beginning with fertilization and soil preparation, followed by pruning and pest control. Irrigation is typically avoided during this dormancy period.

The dormancy season plays a crucial role in promoting vigorous vegetative growth, blossoming, and fruit-bearing, ultimately ensuring abundant agricultural crop production in the region.
