Riyadh, March 5, 2025 – The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid), in collaboration with Qassim University, has officially launched an ambitious solar panel installation project across the university’s buildings and facilities. With a power generation capacity of 5,137 kW, the project is set to produce clean, renewable energy while significantly reducing the institution’s energy consumption. This initiative is expected to deliver annual energy savings of 8.6 million kWh, which is a major step toward achieving sustainability goals and enhancing energy efficiency.
According to Waled AlGhreri, Board Member and CEO of Tarshid, the project comes after extensive field surveys and technical studies that identified numerous opportunities to optimize energy use. By installing solar panels and systems on rooftops, Tarshid aims to promote the self-consumption of clean energy while adhering to the highest international standards. The initiative not only supports Qassim University’s energy needs but also exemplifies the broader push toward sustainability within the Kingdom.
The solar installation is designed to reduce the university's annual electricity consumption from approximately 186 million kWh to 178 million kWh, resulting in annual energy savings of 8.6 million kWh. These savings are expected to preserve over 13,000 barrels of oil equivalent each year and avoid approximately 4,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually—an environmental benefit comparable to planting over 82,000 tree seedlings.
This solar panel project aligns perfectly with Tarshid’s overarching mission to contribute to the Kingdom’s sustainability targets under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The project focuses on reducing carbon emissions and promoting energy conservation, crucial elements in the Kingdom’s commitment to a more sustainable future. By enhancing energy efficiency and embracing renewable energy solutions, Tarshid and Qassim University are setting a significant example for other institutions and businesses to follow in the transition toward a greener economy.
As part of Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the nation’s energy sources and reduce dependency on fossil fuels, this solar project underscores the growing role of renewable energy in Saudi Arabia’s energy landscape. The partnership between Tarshid and Qassim University highlights the importance of collaboration in driving the Kingdom’s environmental and sustainability goals, contributing to the long-term vision of a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
