Makkah, February 2, 2025 – Under the esteemed patronage of Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the 10th International Holy Quran Competition for Military Personnel was officially inaugurated on Saturday in the Makkah Region. The event, organized by the General Directorate of Religious Affairs of the Armed Forces, brought together 179 contestants representing 32 countries, showcasing a global commitment to the memorization, recitation, and preservation of the Holy Quran.
The opening ceremony featured an address by Lieutenant-General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces, who spoke about the Kingdom’s deep dedication to religious and cultural values, particularly through its support for Quranic studies. Major General Dr. Mesfer Al-Issa, Director General of the General Administration of Religious Affairs of the Armed Forces and Supervisor General of the competition, also delivered remarks, highlighting the event's significance in fostering Islamic education and unity among military personnel from various nations.
Maj. Gen. Dr. Al-Issa emphasized Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to serving the Holy Quran and spreading its teachings. He noted that the competition, which brings together military personnel from diverse countries, is not only an opportunity to showcase Quranic memorization and recitation skills but also a cultural and spiritual event that reinforces the Kingdom’s role in promoting Islamic values globally.
The competition features various categories, including memorization of the entire Quran with proper recitation and Tajweed, as well as memorization of several parts of the Quran with correct recitation and Tajweed. Another category highlights the most beautiful recitation, with a focus on Tajweed and excellent performance, directly read from the Quran.
This year’s event marks a significant milestone in the competition's history, reinforcing the Kingdom’s leadership in religious education and its commitment to spreading the noble values of Islam within the military community and beyond.
