Riyadh, February 15, 2025 – The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, has organized a special exhibition to mark the 80th anniversary of the historic meeting between King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The landmark meeting took place on February 14, 1945, aboard the USS Quincy in the Great Bitter Lake of the Suez Canal and laid the foundation for the enduring Saudi-U.S. strategic partnership.
The exhibition, held at the King Abdulaziz Historical Center in Riyadh, showcases a remarkable collection of rare documents, archival photographs, and historical accounts that detail this pivotal moment in diplomatic history. Open to the public until February 17, the event aims to highlight the significance of the meeting, which was instrumental in shaping the political, economic, cultural, and technological ties between the two nations over the past eight decades.
Beyond being a diplomatic encounter, the 1945 meeting marked a turning point that led to the formalization of Saudi-U.S. relations, including the establishment of embassies, diplomatic representation, and a framework for cooperation based on shared interests and mutual understanding. This bilateral relationship has since played a crucial role in promoting regional and international stability.
