Cairo, February 2, 2025 – The Arab Six-Party Consultative Meeting, convened in Cairo today, expressed strong support for the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the exchange of hostages and detainees, emphasizing the need to maintain peace and security in the region. The meeting, attended by foreign ministers from Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, as well as representatives from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the League of Arab States, underscored the importance of continuing efforts to ensure the ceasefire holds and that humanitarian aid reaches all areas of the Gaza Strip.
The foreign ministers highlighted the essential role of the United States in brokering the ceasefire and reaffirmed their commitment to working with President Donald J. Trump’s administration towards achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East. They also expressed their ongoing support for the efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and other regional partners to implement the terms of the ceasefire and ensure that peace prevails. A key part of the discussion was the need to allow unfettered humanitarian access to Gaza, enabling the delivery of much-needed aid, including shelter and recovery resources, to those affected by the conflict.
The meeting participants also strongly opposed any attempts to divide the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of the Palestinian Authority resuming its responsibilities in Gaza alongside the West Bank and East Jerusalem. They rejected any actions that would undermine Palestinian sovereignty and territorial integrity, such as the expansion of settlements or displacement of Palestinian communities. The ministers reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian people’s steadfastness and their legitimate rights under international law.
Another significant point raised was the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which the participants strongly defended against any efforts to bypass or restrict its operations. The ministers emphasized the importance of supporting UNRWA’s continued work in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees.
Furthermore, the consultative meeting called for immediate international coordination to plan and implement a comprehensive reconstruction process for Gaza. This would not only address the damage caused by the conflict but also improve the living conditions of Palestinians, prevent further displacement, and promote sustainable recovery. To this end, Egypt announced plans, in collaboration with the United Nations, to host an international conference aimed at raising funds for Gaza’s reconstruction once the situation allows.
The meeting also called on the international community, particularly global and regional powers, to actively support the implementation of a two-state solution, which they identified as essential for resolving the long-standing tensions in the Middle East. The ministers reiterated their commitment to working towards a Palestinian state encompassing Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, in line with international resolutions and the borders of June 4, 1967. They voiced support for the efforts of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and urged global participation in the international conference, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, which is scheduled for June 2025.
This consultative meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the Palestinian issue and the broader challenges facing the Middle East, reinforcing the Arab world’s unified stance on the necessity of a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.
