Riyadh, September 3, 2024 – In a significant development for regional diplomacy, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, co-chaired a pivotal meeting of the Executive Committee of the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council in Riyadh on Sunday.


The meeting commenced with Prince Faisal bin Farhan extending a warm and cordial welcome to Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman and his accompanying delegation. In his opening remarks, Prince Faisal highlighted the purpose of the gathering: to fortify the bilateral relationship between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, align with the aspirations of both nations’ leaderships and their citizens, and chart a course toward expanding and deepening their cooperative ties.


Prince Faisal underscored that the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council serves as a crucial mechanism for orchestrating activities across diverse sectors, thereby strengthening fraternal relations. He emphasized that the council plays a pivotal role in advancing the 2030 visions of both nations, which is expected to yield positive outcomes for both countries and their populations.


Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, in his address, lauded the remarkable efforts of the council’s committees in revising and expanding the list of initiatives. He commended the development of new initiatives and the establishment of measurable milestones with defined timelines. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the secretariat general's effective performance in preparing a comprehensive report for the first quarter of 2024, which provided valuable insights into the council’s activities.


Highlighting the significance of the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman noted that it represents a landmark moment in the evolution of Saudi-Qatari relations. He emphasized that the meeting underscores the dedication of both nations to diligent collaboration, seizing opportunities, and engaging in meaningful dialogue to assess and build upon the council’s achievements. He expressed enthusiasm for the successful implementation of the planned initiatives.


"Today, we witness the tangible results of the extensive efforts made by the committee heads, committed teams, and communication officers, as well as the dedicated team of the secretariat general since the inception of the eighth session of the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council," remarked Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman.


He reiterated that the current session encompasses a broad spectrum of joint cooperative areas and reflects the ongoing determination to achieve the desired outcomes. Both Saudi Arabia and Qatar remain steadfast in their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of their leaderships and peoples.


The meeting also featured a review by the secretariat general team of the outputs from the various committees associated with the coordination council. At the conclusion of the session, Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman formally endorsed the meeting minutes.


Attendees included Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan, and Fahad Alharthi, Director General of the General Administration of Secretariats of Councils and Committees at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their presence underscored the significance of the meeting and the broader commitment to advancing the Saudi-Qatari partnership.
