The FIFA Football for Schools Program's Final Phase Ends in Makkah

The eighth phase of the FIFA Football for Schools program for boys and girls concluded in Makkah, organized by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and Ministry of Education.

Jeddah, December 30, 2024 — The eighth and final phase of the FIFA Football for Schools program for the 2024 season has successfully concluded in Makkah, marking a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia's commitment to nurturing young football talent. This year’s program, which focuses on both boys and girls, was organized by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) under the direct supervision of FIFA, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Education.

The initiative, which is part of FIFA’s global efforts to use football as a tool for education and social development, saw a diverse participation. 220 male students, 101 female students, 26 male teachers, 30 female teachers, along with several male and female coaches, came together for the final phase of the program. This year's event was designed to uncover emerging talent while also providing educators and coaches with the tools to continue fostering football at the grassroots level.

The program unfolded over two action-packed days. The first day was dedicated to lectures and workshops aimed at teachers, where they were briefed on the structure of the program and its objectives. The workshops offered insights into how the program helps develop key skills not just for football, but for life, including teamwork, discipline, and leadership. These sessions were an opportunity for teachers to enhance their understanding of the educational value that football can offer, and how they can incorporate it into their classrooms and local communities.

On the second day, the focus shifted to the students, who engaged in practical training sessions designed to test and improve their technical abilities, teamwork, and tactical awareness. The students showcased their skills on the pitch, with both boys and girls participating in a series of drills and mini-matches. At the end of the day, the participants were awarded commemorative prizes in recognition of their hard work, dedication, and the spirit of sportsmanship they demonstrated throughout the program.

The FIFA Football for Schools program is an important part of Saudi Arabia’s long-term strategy to develop football from the ground up, identifying and nurturing talent from a young age. By engaging both male and female students, the program promotes inclusivity and equal opportunities for all, encouraging the next generation to pursue football while fostering healthy, active lifestyles.

This year’s phase in Makkah follows a series of successful implementations across various regions of Saudi Arabia, with the ultimate aim of creating a lasting football culture that will not only support the national teams but also benefit communities across the Kingdom. The program's completion in Makkah stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to the development of sports and education, in line with its Vision 2030 goals of promoting physical activity and enhancing sports infrastructure nationwide.

With the conclusion of this final phase, attention now turns to the ongoing efforts to sustain and expand the reach of the FIFA Football for Schools program, ensuring that even more young boys and girls across Saudi Arabia will have the opportunity to participate in the next season’s initiatives.
