Bangkok, January 26, 2025 — The third international ASEAN conference, titled "Khair Ummah," held in Bangkok, Thailand, concluded its first day with the highly impactful fourth session focusing on "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Moderation and Tolerance Approach." The session, which was part of a series of enlightening discussions during the conference, was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Fraih of Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University.


The session's primary objective was to delve into the critical themes of moderation and tolerance, both as fundamental principles within Islam and as essential tools for promoting global peace and harmony. A key focus was the dangers posed by extremism, as well as the proactive steps Saudi Arabia has taken in countering radical ideologies. The discussions highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering a culture of peace, tolerance, and coexistence, both within its borders and globally.


Throughout the session, the importance of Saudi Arabia’s strategic initiatives aimed at combating extremism was thoroughly explored. Participants noted the Kingdom’s vital role in safeguarding global security and stability, particularly through its leadership in supporting Muslim communities worldwide. Several of Saudi Arabia’s programs and global initiatives promoting moderation were discussed, underscoring the country’s significant contributions to global peace efforts.


The session was attended by a diverse group of scholars, imams, and preachers from prominent institutions around the world, including Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Miranda Mosque in the Philippines, the Ministry of Religions and Denominations in Cambodia, and Muhammadiyah Mosque at Ho Chi Minh National University in Vietnam. These experts contributed valuable perspectives, further enriching the discussions on moderation, tolerance, and the need to counter extremist ideologies.


The "Khair Ummah" conference is a vital platform for dialogue among Islamic scholars, religious leaders, and policymakers, aiming to bridge gaps and address pressing challenges faced by Muslim communities globally. The session’s success marks a critical milestone in advancing the message of moderation, while reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to build a more peaceful and harmonious world through constructive, interfaith engagement.
