Johannesburg, February 20, 2025 — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, participated in the opening session of the first meeting of the G20 foreign ministers in Johannesburg, held under the presidency of the Republic of South Africa. This pivotal gathering marked the beginning of the G20 foreign ministers' discussions for the year, focusing on critical global challenges and opportunities for collaboration.

The discussions, under South Africa’s G20 presidency, are centered on advancing solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the world today. These include strengthening international capacities to confront natural and man-made disasters, facilitating a just and inclusive energy transition, and capitalizing on strategic minerals to drive economic development. The overarching goal of these efforts is to foster comprehensive and sustainable development within a global framework that prioritizes inclusiveness, justice, and sustainability.

The session, which was attended by key Saudi officials, including Deputy Minister of Finance and Saudi Sherpa for the G20, Abdul Mohsen bin Saad Al-Khalaf, as well as Saudi Ambassador to South Africa Faisal bin Falah Al-Harbi and Waleed Al-Ismail, Assistant Director General of the Office of the Foreign Minister, underscored the Kingdom’s continued commitment to supporting global cooperation in addressing these complex issues.

Through these discussions, the G20 aims to provide a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable development, focusing on collaboration and mutual benefit among the world’s leading economies. The ongoing dialogue among foreign ministers, including the significant contributions from Saudi Arabia, is expected to shape policies that support long-term stability and prosperity for nations around the globe.
